Digital Cultural Heritage

Autumn semester, 9 Nov to 13 Dec 2026 (5 weeks full time), on site, Uppsala University at the Department of ALM, English

The course is a master’s level course which includes advanced study elements tailored for PhD students that expand the course to a doctoral level course.

This course provides students with theoretical and methodological approaches to digital cultural heritage and fosters a critical understanding of digital media in production, preservation, dissemination of digital cultural heritage resources. To promote nuanced and contextualized knowledge as well as stimulate critical reflection, the emphasis is placed on debates about contemporary social, economic and legal implications for digital cultural heritage development. During the course, students will learn about the existing national and international regulations, policies and projects focused on the research and management of digital cultural heritage. The course also provides students with practical and theoretical understanding of the processes and complexities of implementing digital tools and methods in digital cultural heritage collections.
